Sun Haven Waldorf School Parent and Child classes are for parents and young children up to 4 years of age.
The Sun Haven Waldorf School's Parent and Child class is a place where we welcome the newest and youngest members of our community and we hope it is just the beginning of a long and mutually supportive relationship between you, our school, fellow participants and Waldorf education.
Your child, together with you, will engage in play, song, and movement activities; create simple crafts with natural fibres; enjoy an organic snack and experience stories, songs and puppet shows that you can do at home. Together, we will create an environment promoting the healthy development of young children and their family.
Taught by early childhood specialists, parents observe, move, and interact with their young children in a nurturing, playful environment. Parent and Child classes are a wonderful introduction to Waldorf education and to the Sun Haven Waldorf School community.
Each week includes:
- Circle time, with songs, movement, and rhythmical verses
- A story told with puppets
- Organic, whole grain snack
- Crafts and activities for parents
- Articles on aspects of early childhood to take home
- A focus on and support for healthy daily and weekly rhythms.
- Outdoor play
Parent Gatherings:
Each fall, winter and spring session includes an in-depth parent gathering that will contain discussions on various parenting and child development topics such as play, discipline, sleep, nutrition, media, rhythm and routines. Parents are given materials to read, observational tasks to engage in and encouraged to share their insights, request topics and ask questions.
Program facilitator Kim Wilson is a graduate of Sophia’s Hearth Training Centre in Keene, NH specializing in Waldorf education for Parents and Children from birth to 3 years of age. Kim is also currently studying Spacial Dynamics with Jaimen McMillen.

Sun Haven Waldorf School has been very supportive of our family through the school's tuition adjustment program. I discovered the school when my family moved to the Sunshine Coast and at that time Sun Haven was not even on my radar, and I was not thinking about enrolling my children. Our goal was simply to get settled on the Coast and get our business transitioned from the city to the country. Once I discovered Sun Haven I knew it was an excellent fit for my children. The only challenge was that it was out of our budget at that time. I was happy to learn about the school's tuition adjustment program, and in turn was able to begin envisioning a Waldorf Education for my children. After receiving the reduced tuition for two years, and now that our family has better financial stability, we decided to give thanks to the school for their support, through a financial donation back. My son's love of nature has only grown since joining Sun Haven Waldorf School for Kindergarten in 2008. The fact that his sense of exploration of and curiosity about the natural world is not only encouraged, but appreciated by his classmates, only solidifies my resolve to expose him as long as possible to this education. We also appreciate tremendously the fact that the school celebrates so many festivals from so many cultures. And the fact the school is right across from the beach sure doesn't hurt! Waldorf education has been such a valuable experience for both my son and the entire family - we wouldn't have it an other way.
